Illinois

As a designer for Illinois’ Strategic Communications and Marketing team, I’ve helped establish and implement the university’s first cohesive set of brand standards, building consistency across a large, multi-unit institution.

I've led the visual redesign of the flagship website, rebranded partners such as Willard Airport, designed content for our flagship social channels, reviewed ad campaigns across campus, and designed university communications across email, signage, and print.

The result is a body of work focused on building consistency, accessibility, and trust across an institution with hundreds of departments, units, and audiences.

Brand Identity

One of my primary responsibilities is helping departments, colleges, and campus units align with the broader University of Illinois brand while maintaining their own unique goals and audiences.

A major example of this work was supporting the rollout of the University of Illinois Willard Airport brand. I helped create standards, implementation materials, and educational resources that ensured consistency across touchpoints while strengthening alignment with the university's overarching identity system.

Homepage Website Redesign

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s website, which serves over 2.3 million users annually, was redesigned to shift from a prestige-focused experience to one centered on prospective students.

Our goals were to simplify navigation, strengthen storytelling, ensure accessibility across devices, and create a flexible design system.

The redesigned homepage centers prospective students through bold use of Illini Orange, clear application CTAs, and news stories that build credibility. Interactive components such as the scroll-triggered image scroller and card carousel help users explore campus life and the surrounding community in a modern, engaging, and accessible way.

Mega Menu Navigation

To improve site navigation and help users quickly find important information, I designed a simple mega menu. Developed for campus-wide use, the menu organizes key sections clearly and supports easy access to subpages without overwhelming users.

Internal Landing Pages

We anticipated six primary pages that needed a consistent and engaging look across the site. These pages were designed to be more dynamic and visually rich than secondary pages, with a fun and approachable feel. I created a hero format featuring a cutout student overlaid on a campus background to appeal more to incoming students. Additionally, we developed a custom links section and showcased highlight stats in a subtle but impactful way.

Social Media

The university's social channels reach hundreds of thousands of students, alumni, faculty, and community members across platforms. My work includes designing social-first content that balances institutional messaging with engaging visual storytelling.

From student life and campus events to university announcements and strategic initiatives, these designs help make Illinois feel more approachable, relevant, and connected to its audiences.
